It was a bittersweet victory for Catholic school sports fans last night.
The varsity softball team at Xavier College Preparatory lost to Tucson’s Salpointe Catholic yesterday, so St. Mary’s High School plays Salpointe  at 5 p.m. tonight at Rose Mosford Softball Complex, 9833 N. 25th Ave. in Phoenix.

Sports dominates this edition of “Weekend calendar.” Of particular note is a re-match of a 1990 state championship that ended in a tie.
