Preparing for the Lenten journey
Some resources to consider to prepare and take your Lenten journey:
-
Lenten playlist — SpiritandSong.com, a division of Oregon Catholic Press Publications, compiled a lengthy playlist of songs to accompany you on your Lenten journey. Find full tracks (accompanied by an image of the album cover) such as Matt Maher’s “40 Days” and “Lay It Down,” Tom Booth’s “Solitude” and “Be With Me, Lord,” Ike Ndolo’s “We Are the Beggars” (both versions) and “Awake, O Sleeper.”
- New books — Catholic News Service released a 15-item list of new books to consider perusing during Lent. The Catholic Herald, a publication of the Archdiocese of Milwaukee, posted a user-friendly format including a few book cover images.
Most titles sound intriguing: “Simplifying the Soul: Lenten Practices to Renew Your Spirit,” “5 Minutes with Christ: Spiritual Nourishment for Busy Teachers” and “Homegrown Faith: Nurturing Your Catholic Family.”
- Pope’s message — Lent is an opportunity to reflect on “the very heart of Christian life: charity,” the pope wrote. Read the full message.
- Pilgrimage — Consider taking a pilgrimage within your own diocese. Parishes within the Phoenix Diocese has quite a collection of Stations of the Cross from metal (Ss. Simon and Jude) to large paintings (St. Thomas Aquinas) to abstract (St. Thomas More in Glendale). You and your friends or family could check some of them out a Friday or two during Lent.
If you live in the Phoenix area, you might also consider a pilgrimage to St. Thomas the Apostle Parish as Good Friday draws near. For those outside the Valley, a virtual pilgrimage via the video below might do. La Pieta, unveiled during the last part of Advent, has quite a few talking:
