Avondale student’s patriotism top in state

An Avondale student ended up third in state.
St. Thomas Aquinas sixth-graders entered the annual Patriot’s Pen essay contest and Jordan Meyer emerged on top at the post level. The Avondale student’s thoughts on whether patriotism still matters impressed the judges at the regional level too and she ended up third in state.
The local VFW post, which sponsored the contest’s primary level, presented Meyer with a $100 check on Friday after the school’s morning prayer.
Interestingly enough, all winners in the sixth-eighth-grade contest were sixth graders this year, according to Meyer’s mom.
