Among this month’s “Best Bets” on TV according to Eight Magazine, the monthly booklet for supporters of PBS in Arizona, is “The Calling.” It debuts tonight on PBS (9 p.m. for Arizonans) and concludes tomorrow night.

The two-part, four-hour documenatary provides a behind-the-scenes look at seven young Americans of various faiths who are preparing to become the nation’s next generation of religious leaders. Filmmakers spent 18 months on the job chronicling the thoughts and experiences of these faithful from discernment and into thier early days as ordained professionals.

For Catholics, that must have meant interviews about a priest’s days discerning the seminary, as obviously, formation is far longer than 18 months, but the piece should be worth a look nonethless. Check your local listing for times.

And feel free to check out the video below also posted on What’s Your Calling.org. The documentary reportedly inspired the site and a virtual discussion addressing “a new look at a big question: What have you sacrificed to pursue your life’s passion?”

The 10-minute video gives a Catholic perspective on the sacrifices and work required of a seminarian. Two viewers, including a priest, commented on the video earlier today on the “What’s Your Calling” site.
