Golf fundraising

Posted by : ambria

It seems several organizations in the Valley, especially Catholic schools, use golf tournaments as a means of fund raising.

As the weather cools, I imagine other groups will start planning winter and spring benefit tournaments. That includes the East Valley Serra Club every April to raise money for local seminarians.

Golfers supporting OLPH School in Scottsdale raised $17,000 Nov. 8.

Should you find yourself registering for friendly competition on the green, consider recruiting someone from the Nannen family to complete your foursome. The Nannens — Derek, Karen and Ron — along with Tom Jacobs, came in first place in the Nov. 8 golf classic benefiting Our Lady of Perpetual Help School in Scottsdale. Karen Nannen also earned the longest drive and closes to the pin titles among women.

Msgr. Tom Hever’s team — I’ve heard he’s a regular on the golf course — came in second.

Sixty-four golfers spent their Monday morning on the green in the name of fellowship and Catholic education. Slightly more than half of the hole and cart sponsorships came from individual families. Now that’s dedication to education.

Between registration and a TV raffle, golfers raised $17,000 that day for OLPH School. That will help fund new classroom computers.
