DVD Tuesday — The Human Experience
DVD Tuesday announcements are everywhere — the morning television news, your weekly e-mail from Redbox, the USCCB’s/Catholic News Service’s Media Review Office, and today, a special announcement from Grassroots Films.
The Brooklyn-based film company, which produced “The Human Experience,” an award-winning documentary about the poor and suffering in different parts of the world, announced the film’s limited DVD release today. Phoenix viewers may have already caught an unfinished version of the documentary.
The film about a “band of brothers” who sets off to encounter humanity in the places few would want to go — like the streets of New York City, a leper colony and lost children in Peru — had a limited release at Harkins Theatres last spring. “The Human Experience” had a trio of select showings before that dating to Jan. 2009.
During one of them, the show’s stars made time to talk with The Catholic Sun:
As this weekend’s Catholic Campaign for Human Development at parishes nationwide edges closer, “The Human Experience” documentary silently shows the call for Catholics to help “Fight Poverty. Defend Human Dignity” as this year’s theme states.
The USCCB site has more about the CCHD collection including an animated promo video. The Catholic Sun also has an article about local CCHD efforts including an initiative aimed at empowering single moms to move out of poverty. It went online yesterday and appears in our Nov. 18 print edition.
