Parishes offer safe Halloween celebrations

Here’s a rundown of some of the parish-based Halloween celebrations throughout the diocese. Some involve minimal fees. Others invite canned good donations for St. Vincent de Paul. A few are specifically for youth.
Halloween Bash — 5 p.m. Oct. 30 at St. Agnes School. Free, Disney-themed event. Enter “It’s a Small World” and “The Haunted Mansion” plus trick or treat throughout the classrooms, take pictures with Disney characters and an “electrical” surprise at 8 p.m. A princess tea party starts at 4 p.m. Tickets required for food, photos and attractions.
Trunk or Treat
- 5:30-7:30 p.m. Oct. 30 at Holy Spirit Parish in Tempe. For children fifth grade and younger. Sponsred by the youth ministry. Games, crafts, activities, pumpkin decorating and a “saint walk.” Bring a canned good to “buy” the pumpkin. Fair Trade Café for parents. St. Francis play by the puppeteers.
- After 4:30 p.m. Masses Oct. 30 at St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish in Cave Creek. Includes dinner for those who register. Sponsored by Women in Gabriel’s Spirit. Prizes for best decorated vehicle and costumes.
- After 5 p.m. Mass Oct. 30 at St. Bernadette Parish in Scottsdale.
- After the 9:30 and 11:30 a.m. Masses Oct. 31 at St. Mary Magdalene Parish in Gilbert. Children kindergarten and up should dress as a saint or a profession that saint is a patron of.
- 6-8 p.m. Oct. 31 at All Saints Parish in Mesa. Includes pumpkin carving, games, face painting.
- “Saints and Sweets” after 8:30 and 10:15 a.m. Masses Oct. 31 at Blessed Sacrament Parish in Scottsdale.
- 6:30-8:30 p.m. at St. Pius X in Flagstaff. Candy from families, carnival games and martyr house.
All Hallow’s Eve Carnival
- Oct. 31 at St. Margaret Mary Parish in Bullhead City. Event draws 1,500-2,000 children annually.
- 3-6 p.m. Oct. 31 at Our Lady of the Lake Parish in Lake Havasu City. Come dressed as a saint, Bible hero, angel or yourself for food, games, live entertainment and candy.
- Family Fun Festival 4-6 p.m. Oct. 31 at St. Thomas More Parish in Glendale. Bring canned goods for St. Vincent de Paul pantry.
Other events
- Spook-Tacular — 5:30-8:30 p.m. at Sacred Heart Parish in Prescott. Games, a Haunted Hall, jumper, cake walks, food, fun. Bring a canned good for the St. Vincent de Paul pantry.
- Alternative Halloween, Praise and worship concert — 7:30-9:30 p.m. Oct. 31 at St. Mary Magdalene Parish in Gilbert. For junior high and high school youth.
- All Saints Day Party — 6:30-9 p.m. Oct. 31 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Tempe. Hosted by Sacred Heart Home Educators. Begins with Litany of the Saints. Games, prizes, umping castle, cake walk, candy, pumpkin decorating (bring your own). Cost $10 per family plus $2 per treat bag. RSVP to Yvette, yrubyrey@aol.com or (602) 323-9516.
