A pro-life thought

I’ve kept this pro-life thought open on my e-mail for a good week or so. Thought it made for some quick yet relevant reading during Respect Life Month:

Pro-life advocates pray outside a Glendale Planned Parenthood Oct. 9. An increasing stream of women — including one from a cab — filed inside as the morning wore on.

I can do no other than be reverent before everything that is called life. I can do no other than to have compassion for all that is called life. That is the beginning and the foundation of all ethics.

— Albert Schweitzer

It came in my “Spitzer Daily Inspirations” e-mail. Sign up for yourself, if you’d like. Staff at the Diocesan Pastoral Center were automatically signed up for these e-mails toward the end of our “Journey to Excellence” series of staff retreats over the last couple of years.

I enjoy them because the quotes often come from notable leaders — many Catholic — and are succinct and empowering. Some appropriately come from Scripture too. The daily quotes serve as good reminders of what we learned on retreat so that the “retreat high” becomes more enduring and ideally leads to more long-term change.

If you’re enticed about the benefits the Spitzer Center’s Journey to Excellence can offer an organization, Bishop Thomas J. Olmsted and other staff reflected on their experience in April. The video highlights recently went online.
