Students read with an end to hunger in mind
SCOTTSDALE — The more students at Our Lady of Perpetual Help School read this month, the more mouths they will feed. It’s all part of the annual Read Along for Hunger initiative.
The fourth annual event challenges students in kindergarten through sixth grade to collect pledges for every book they read in October. Resulting funds support World Food Program, a leading humanitarian agency that is an outreach of the United Nations.
Every dollar raised can feed four school children in impoverished areas worldwide. The effort has raised more than $60 million in the past three years, according to press material.
