Weekend calendar June 25-27
There are a lot of events going on this weekend throughout the diocese. Even if you’re unable to attend, try to keep the events and those who can come in prayer.
Rummage sale — 7 a.m.-2 p.m. June 24-26 at St. Thomas the Apostle Parish. Indoor sale features housewares, furniture, appliances, electronics, tools, clothing, home decor and more.
Dominican ordination — June 25 in San Francisco. Christopher Fadok, a local Catholic school alumnus is being ordained to the Order of Preachers today in the Western Dominican Province. His Mass of Thanksgiving will be at St. Clement of Rome in Sun City July 10. Stay connected with The Catholic Sun for a full article on his vocation.
Spiritual Spa weekend — June 25-27 at The Casa in Scottsdale. Other sessions are available in July and August.
Phoenix Diocesan Council of Catholic Women — 8:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. June 26 at Ss. Simon and Jude Cathedral. Annual meeting includes an 11 a.m. Mass with Bishop Thomas J. Olmsted, officer installation and awards. Irene Corbett, an original St. Clare of Assisi parishioner, will be named the council‘s Woman of the Year. She is involved in many ministries at the Surprise parish including bringing the Eucharist to the home-bound and hospitalized plus two capital campaigns and the sacred arts committee. Jackie Mialki, president of St. Clare’s Women’s Guild, wrote in the parish bulletin:
Her quiet visibility is all around us as she is a daily communicant and assists on Thursdays at the Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament. Behind the scenes Irene has been ironing altar linens for five years …and baking and coordinating our Funeral Ministry Reception for the bereaved families. In her quiet way, she has set an example of Catholic Christianity in action to her church family and to her community.
Women Helping Women training — noon-4 p.m. June 26 at Catholic Charities, 4747 N. 7th Ave. Join local crisis pregnancy agencies 1st Way and Aid to Women Center plus Catholic Charities for coordinated training on advocating for and educating women and teenagers facing crisis pregnancies. Catholic Life in the Spirit seminar — June 26-June 27 at The Casa in Scottsdale. Sponsored by Catholic Renewal Ministries and Charismatic Community. Call Emma (623) 518-6818 or Perla (623) 848-1327.
Schoenstatt Mass — 3 p.m. June 27 at St. Joseph Parish. Includes procession and reception. Bishop Thomas J. Olmsted will preside.
Deacon installation — 11 a.m. June 27 at St. Clare of Assisi Parish in Surprise. Bishop Thomas J. Olmsted assigned Deacon Joseph A. Badame as the parish’s third deacon earlier this month. (St. Clare has two other retired deacons plus a winter deacon). He’ll be installed during the regular Sunday liturgy. Deacon Joe, who was ordained in 1991 in Massachusetts, came to the Phoenix Diocese in 2006. He will celebrate his 40th wedding anniversary June 29. Deacon Joe is a retired public school teacher and has worked in catechetical leadership positions for more than 30 years. He’ll work at St. Clare eight to 12 hours per week supporting various ministries.
