Parish news

Posted by : ambria

Summer can be a slow time at diocesan parishes, but between Vacation Bible School,  farewell Masses before new priest assignments take effect July 1 and welcome receptions for the new faces, things are picking up pace.

I just finished skimming the bulletins of the handful of parishes who faithfully send us their bulletin each week and found some relevant highlights to share:

  • Softball champs — St. Margaret Mary Parish in Bullhead City is celebrating its championship title in the Ecumenical Softball Tournament this month. Parishioners united as the Padres and I’m guessing fans in the stands didn’t get the same coastal breeze as their San Diego counterparts. No word on their overall record.
  • St. Louis the King deacon, Brophy students in Peru — Deacon Joe Stickney from St. Louis the King Parish in Glendale is on his third immersion trip to Peru with Brophy students. They share blogging detail. His Father’s Day post gives a good recap of their mission so far. Find photos on Facebook.

For more on Brophy’s summer immersion trips in Argentina and El Salvador, check out my “travel virtually this summer” blogpost from earlier this month.

By the way, some of the Latin American children the Brophy students work with visit the Valley on occasion. Here are some highlights from a fall visit from El Salvadorian students.
