School notes
Some students at Seton Catholic Preparatory High School in Candler are keeping rather busy this summer. Here are some highlights:
Three students participated in the weeklong Boys State program — Three Seton took on additional titles last week thanks to the American Legion Post in Chandler who sponsored their participation in Boys State held in Flagstaff. Brennan Vance became Federalist Party Chair, Chris Cusimano was elected County Sheriff and Thomas Borns became the County Attorney in a hands-on, mock lesson in citizenship for high schoolers in modeling city, county and state governments.
Borns, a St. Mary parishioner, was among two students selected to represent Arizona at Boys Nation sometime this summer in Virgina. There the young lawmakers will caucus at the beginning, form committees and hold hearings on proposed bills. They will also organize party conventions, visit key federal agencies and historical sites.
Senior Bethany Baca is touring China with Phoenix’s Children’s Chorus — The 10-day experience includes cultural experiences and performances with Chinese choirs. Baca, a St. Benedict parishioner, is also a dedicated member of Seton’s Fine Arts program.
