Travel virtually this summer
If you’re like me and Memorial Day weekend served as your only summer getaway, consider virtual travel.
Several young men from Brophy College Preparatory are spending a month or so in Argentina, El Salvador and Peru. They have a blog dedicated to each country.
The immersion experiences seem to be within its first several days, so most posts speak to “why am I here.”
But there are already other highlights:
- The El Salvador blog is touting the Family to Family program. They’ve encountered fellow native students whose family cannot afford their education. Brophy wants to encourage you to help break the cycle of poverty by pitching in for the education of Salvadorian children.
- The students in Peru were quickly surprised that despite utter poverty, there is also utter joy in the people they meet. It sounds like they also get a daily dose of fireworks which go off well into the night.
- Students in Argentina started classes Tuesday including one on the country’s culture and history. Earlier this week, they had an awareness summit on organ donation. You can also try your hand at Spanish as one of the blogposts wrote a photo caption exclusively in that language.
Follow them for the next several weeks as they work with local children and embrace a world so different from the one they left in Phoenix.
