St. Patrick’s Day events

Relive last year’s celebration at Ss. Simon and Jude School while checking out your options for this year.

  • Parade — Sr. Raphael Quinn, in the above video) is this year’s Grand Marshall for Phoenix’s 27th annual celebration. St. Mary’s High School bands are also scheduled somewhere in the lineup. The parade starts at the school at 10 a.m. with a festival following at Margaret T. Hance Park. Here’s detailed information.
  • Dinner/Dance — Hosted by St. Maria Goretti Parish. 6-10 p.m., March 13, Piper Hall. Corned beef, cabbage, dessert. Music by Two’s Company. Tickets: $15 adults, $5 under 12. Info: (480) 998-7401. The RSVP deadline for a similar event hosted by OLPH Sodality has lapsed.
  • Irish Dreamers book signing — Fr. Bill Fitzgerald will be on hand to sign copies of his book, a compilation of 14 stories to enjoy and reflect upon (journaling space provided), according to The Casa bulletin. The book is available at the gift shop. Fr. Fitzgerald will be around after all Masses.

Other events

  • Girls tried out for the St. Francis Xavier softball teams March 10. Games start this weekend.Catholic baseball — Farm and minor league games through the St. Francis Xavier Athletic Association start tonight, but catch a solid two-and-a-half hours of friendly competition beginning at 8 a.m. tomorrow on the school fields.
  • Seton staff’s artwork on exhibit — Shari Keith, Seton’s artist in residence, will show several pieces of her work in 10 Transformations, an invitational show that opens today at the Chandler Center for the Arts. Each artist retrieved their medium from the Chandler landfill and then created their artwork.
  • Yard sale for HaitiSt. John Bosco students are selling all kinds of items (plus refreshments) from 6 a.m.-3p.m. at the school.
  • Brophy/Xavier Scholarship Fashion Show — It’s sold out, but it’s this weekend too.
