Quirky clothing
I finally finished a draft of a coverage story on Seton’s groundbreaking. School, church and community leaders ceremoniously broke ground last week for a new multi-story classroom building.
I was there taking notes for the article and taking pictures to go with it.
I took pictures from several different angles during the blessing and groundbreaking ceremony. At one point, I ended up behind the student musicians. I found the orchestra’s sweatshirts amusing. I took a picture of it.
Seeing their shirt reminded me that I’ve often complimented The Newman Center in Tempe for creating clever names for its programs, but I find Seton to be particularly clever when it comes to designing school clothing, namely club clothing.
I’ve found myself laughing at the band’s “It’s ok, I’m with the Band” T-shirts on more than one occasion. Both the band and orchestra designs seem like the clothing will have greater longevity than schools that simply write “School name — School organization” on it. I’d be willing to bet (if I were at all competitive) that nearly every Seton band/orchestra student has been stopped by a stranger to compliment their shirts.
And in the end, these innovative designs just may provide an opportunity to promote their band/Catholic education.
By the way, I didn’t forget the reason I came to Seton’s groundbreaking. I moved over 173 photos of the blessing and groundbreaking to consider for publication. I will whittle that list down to 20- or 30-something by the time we go to press. Some of them have such clarity that you can see the drops of water the bishop sprinkled over the site’s perimeter.
