Weekend happenings
There are plenty of things going on around the diocese these days. I blame it on Lent being in full swing and the fair weather. Keep the success of the following activities in your prayers, and if you have a couple of hours free this weekend outside of Mass, feel free to attend:
Spiritual enrichment —

- “Morning of Eucharistic Renewal” with Fr. Doug Lorig, 9 a.m.-noon, March 6, St. Joseph Parish, 11001 N. 40th St., Phoenix. Info: (602) 332-2520.

- “Labyrinth Walk: A Mini Workshop” with Taffy Lanser, 9 a.m.-noon, March 6 at The Casa. Cost: $45.
- Catholic Singles & the Great Adventure Bible Timeline — The young Catholic singles group is looking at Matthew 16, Jesus Establishes the Church, at its March 6 gathering 2-4 p.m. at the Diocesan Pastoral Center. Details: call John at (480) 213.7492. Suggested donation: $2.
- Gospel in Action — A look at peacemaking through hospitality and compassion, especially as it relates to the homeless and the migrant. Presented by Franciscan Brother David Buer. 10:30 a.m.-noon March 7 at The Casa.
Activities/Entertainment
- Pride and Prejudice — Jane Austen lovers can finally see a classic story come to life on a U.S. stage. The theatre departments at Brophy and Xavier College preparatories are starring in the U.S. premiere of“Pride and Prejudice.” See previous blogpost for details.
- Hike for the Homeless — It’s tomorrow morning at Estrella Mountain Regional Park in Goodyear. It’s a beautiful area. I’ve been the last two years. Proceeds help St. Joseph the Worker, a local Catholic-based agency help largely homeless clients gain meaningful employment and stability.

Pet Adopt-a-Thon
— More than 50 local welfare organizations will be on site with their furry friends waiting for a new family. The Phoenix Animal Care Coalition will be at the Casa 10 a.m.-3 p.m. - Regional Science Bowl — Brophy students are among the competitors (they’re defending their title) 8 a.m.-4 p.m. March 6 at Glendale Community College.
- American Dream: Quest for Excellence Dinner and Auction — tomorrow at Bourgade Catholic High School, 4602 N. 31st Ave. Registration information or call (062) 973-4000.
- Nun Run — The race isn’t until March 20, but if you’re running as a shadow participant because you won’t be in the Glendale area on race day, Saturday is your deadline to register and receive the T-shirt by race day.
