More Sunbeams
If you’re not already familiar with Sunbeams, our popular event calendar we publish inside the back cover each issue, take a peek now. It’s filled with retreat opportunities, classes, activities and worship opportunities.
The weekends are quite often filled with options of things to do. Here are some Catholic events I stumbled across on my own (check the “Singles” section of Sunbeams for weekly activities):
- Seton student performs in “Sister Moses” — Camille Adams, a sophomore at Seton Catholic Preparatory High School in Chandler, makes her fourth return to “Sisters Moses: The Story of Harriet Tubman” this week. Learn about Tubman’s struggle to free African-American slaves through the Underground Railroad in this Desert Dance Theater production which features African drumming among other music. The only public show is tonight in Gilbert at the Higley Center for the Performing Arts.

Celebrating Marriage
Mass — Join Bishop Thomas J. Olmsted, Kurt and Julie Carrick and hundreds of other married couples for a special Mass honoring the marriage vocation. It’s at 10 a.m. Saturday followed by a lunch and testimony from the Carricks. Call (602) 354-2356 to pre-register. Couples celebrating 25, 20 and 50 years of wedded bliss in 2009 or 2010 will receive a special certificate.
CDA commitment — Don’t forget to show your love of neighbor by making a prayerful and/or financial commitment to the annual diocesan appeal. Here’s our latest CDA story. Monies keep some 70 diocesan and community outreach ministries afloat. Commit online or on a pledge card at Mass this weekend.
Register your 3 1/2-year-old through eighth-grader for the Spring league through the St. Francis Xavier Athletic Association. It looks like the deadline has been extended through Feb. 17. The roughly eight-week season begins March 13.
