Priesthood Sunday

Posted by : ambria

Today marks Priesthood Sunday. As the name suggests, today is a time to specially honor priests for their lifelong service to the Church.

It's not too late to celebrate. Find ideas and templates for cards, bookmarks, prayer and more.

A host of groups sponsor the annual event including the USA Council of Serra International and catholic Scouting groups, who encourage local parishes to find their own ways of honoring their priests. Some Catholics offer extra prayer, others send cards — which you can download templates here — take them to lunch or dinner or create other outward signs of their appreciation.

Children in a Texas parish offered various prayers for their priest one year and presented him with a paper prayer chain on Priesthood Sunday. Check out the photo.

I haven’t run across any local celebrations specifically honoring priests today. It seems many parishes are finding ways to honor their priests all year as part of the Year for Priests and today got lost in the shuffle. I heard last week that one preschool is doing a monthly celebration for their priests.

Phoenix’s top priest, Bishop Thomas J. Olmsted is celebrating at least two Masses today as part of the 25th anniversary celebration of St. Germaine Parish in Prescott Valley.
