School’s win streak sets national record
Winning a golf match this week was nothing new for the Xavier College Preparatory team, but its Oct. 21 win was something special. It marked the team’s 145th straight win, including ties, exactly 13 years from the start of the win streak.
Not only that, but the win marked the longest consecutive win streak by any girls high school golf team in the nation. A Nevada high school held the previous streak — 144 wins — which spanned 1992-2004.
Sr. Lynn Winsor, BVM, has coached the team the entire time and then some. The team has 367 wins and 25 losses, a 94 percent winning record under her 36-year leadership.
The Xavier golf team has earned state championships 1980-1995 and repeated every year since 1998.
The current golf team includes:
- Back row — Sarah Schmelzel, Katerina Duran, team manager, Anne Straneva, Katerina Ruzickova, co-captain
- Middle — Brianne Sanford, Sierra Sanchez, captain, Miranda Leon, Katie Kearney, Daffodil Sanchez
- Front — Kaira Martin, Cassidy Sanchez, Morgan Miller
