Benefit from bunco

Posted by : ambria

Catholics can sharpen more than just their rolling skills during the first annual Bunco Benefit.

The parish's Ministers of Care is holding a Bunco Benefit tonight for pastoral care for the homeless at St. Luke's Hospital in Tempe.

The Ministers of Care at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Parish in Tempe is hosting the event tonight. For a $25 donation, high rollers get dinner, an hour of bunco, prizes and dessert. Proceeds benefit pastoral care for homeless patients at St. Luke’s Hospital in Tempe.

Pastoral Care ministry is something I hope to explore more in a future story as it illustrates the Gospel in action and so many parishioners throughout the diocese dedicate their time to it. The article, whenever we get to it, will be a great way to honor their efforts.

Meanwhile, I ran across at least one parish that is honoring their pastoral care volunteers. The Knights of Columbus at St. Theresa Parish is putting on a thank you dinner Oct. 24 for those who

  • bring communion to the homebound
  • visit the sick in their homes, care facilities or hospitals
  • send cards to the ill
  • help with funeral ministry

The appreciation dinner is in honor of Pastoral Care Week Oct. 25-31.

These are just some of the examples that Catholics involved with a pastoral care ministry reach out to the ill, suffering and bereaved. More information on the diocesan Office of Disability and Pastoral Care Ministries is also available.
