Student journalists in the news
Catholic school students not only excel well at making the news, but at reporting it.
Seton — Adrianna Amato, class of 2008 who worked on the school newspaper and television station, will have her first on-air experience today. Amato is a sophomore at the University of Missouri. She’ll be doing “cut-ins” for “The Today Show” when the national broadcast cuts to local news. Students run the area’s NBC affiliate.
Amato had her first story published on KOMU earlier this month and regularly has stories posted and aired on the nightly broadcast.
Brophy — The Roundup, the school paper, was just named a finalist for the national “2009 Newspaper Pacemaker” award from National Scholastic Press Association. The award is the highest honor given to publications and recognizes student papers for overall excellence and essentially setting the pace for everyone else.
Additionally, Matt Stanley, co-Editor in Chief last year, is one of six finalists for the NSPA’s National Sports Story of the Year Award for his article “Brophy set to join new region” published in December.
Winners for each category will be announced Nov. 14 at the fall convention.
