Socializing with The Catholic Sun

The Catholic Sun is on Twitter.

The Catholic Sun is on Twitter.

I came across an interesting post on Mashable earlier today. It describes seven ways to make a news site more social.

I was happy find The Catholic Sun is already doing some the things on the list. We’re on Twitter and Facebook, We allow reader comments on our stories on the Web (scroll to the bottom of the most recent “Your Catholic Priest” feature for an example). With one click, readers can easily share each story on Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, etc. — or even just e-mail a link. We also feature a link to our Twitter page prominently on our Web site, which the post suggested. (Twitter is our preferred social network. Our Facebook page is less frequently updated.)

But it also listed an overwhelming number of suggestions like: showcasing tweets (updates from Twitter), live blogging (which allows instantaneous conversations between readers and journalists), and creating a social news network, which allows readers to connect to each other.

It’s a lot to think about, and with our relatively small staff, it’s a lot to do. For now, though, I think we can try to a utilizing a little more “user-generated content.” If you have Catholic news to share, send it along to me, and we’ll consider posting it here on the blog. And as always, keep the comments and tweets coming. Thanks for sharing.
