Faith on campus
Every year as students head off to college we try to highlight local Catholic campus ministries, namely those at Arizona State University and Northern Arizona State University. See last year’s story.
Since classes start Monday, the Newman centers at both schools are hosting Welcome Masses this weekend. Andrew and I are sharing the reporting duties.

Post-college graduates are making sure their younger peers stay Christ-centered at public universities this fall.
I thought this would be an appropriate time to share a related, yet unsolicited e-mail I got earlier this month pertaining to the Fellowship of Catholic University Students. Apparently, the campus outreach, which offers Bible studies, private mentoring and relational ministry, has expanded to 45 campuses this year (see map).
A dozen campuses are new places of outreach. FOCUS now reaches 25 states. At the bishop’s invitation, a team of four or more missionaries serve local campuses. The missionaries are recent college grads who devote two years to serving their peers, often spending up to 200 hours per week on campus.
