Inspiring vocations

The USCCB offers several resources for those discerning the priesthood, consecrated or religious life.
In a not-so-surprising headline, especially given that it is the Year for Priests, I read today that “Nuns, priests urged to reach out to young people to promote vocations.” The results came from the “Study of Recent Vocations to Religious Life” released Aug. 11 and compiled into a CNS story yesterday.
The story urged having full-time vocation directors in religious communities and creating opportunities for the laity to interact with religious men and women among the ways to increase vocations among the younger crowd.
Along that line, the Sisters of the Precious Blood‘s summer newsletter reported on its annual pilgrimage for vocations. More than 200 people in Ohio walked 3.6 miles casually talking with one another — laity, those in active discernment and the professed/vowed — about religious vocations and vocations to the single and married life. They heard formal talks at some of their stops and walked another 4.4 miles before hearing additional talks from a deacon and religious sister. What a public way to witness to copy.
