Happy Father’s Day
To all men persevering through parenthood, Happy Father’s Day. May you continue to reward your children with endless blessings. Modeling your love and respect, they will in turn do the same for you.
I heard a touching reflection on fatherhood — both earthly and spiritual — last week. It came from David of “The David and Craig Show” fame. (See previous entry).
I’m severely behind on listening to their weekly podcasts. That turned out to be a blessing as Episode 3 — they’ve already broadcast Episode 7 — spends the last seven minutes or so talking about Dads. If you listen through iTunes, you can cue it up pretty easily.
Coming from a single guy who recently lost his earthly father, is close to his heavenly father and someday hopes to be a father, I think everyone can learn something from it when they listen.
Other fatherly links:
- Parenting the masses — local foster parents find happiness in adopted children
- Everyday Dads sound off on a father’s role, child rearing, wisdom and the economy
- Spiritandsong, a Catholic online music community, offers a brief insight into fatherhood as well with its Song of the Week: “I’m not Dude, I’m Dad.” songwriter Bob Halligan, Jr. explained:
Simple concept in the song: Parents are too concerned with having their kids LIKE them. My approach with Liam is he can like me when he’s 35 and I haven’t screwed him up by being too permissive. The song is written for the parents, not the kids!
