Last month I mentioned another honor coming Katie Won’s way. She’s the young gymnast and Christ the King parishioner and student  profiled in a fall issue of The Catholic Sun.

Well, award time is here. Won officially gets crowned June 20.

Her mom was kind enough to send me the following details on her rise to the top:

Katie had an amazing season, which began in January and ended in May.

Katie will be named Arizona’s 2009 Level 9 Most Outstanding Gymnast of the Year June 20. We are very proud of her and her accomplishments.

  • She qualified to the state meet where she placed 2nd on Vault, Bars and Beam. She placed 3rd in the All Around.
  • At a regional meet she placed 5th on Vault, 3rd on Bars and 5th All around. Competitors hailed from Utah, Nevada, California and Arizona.
  • By placing in the top 6 at Regionals, Katie then qualified to Western Nationals. Her team took 2nd place for her age group.

Katie was the top All Around finisher for the State of Arizona.

On a somewhat related note, a community swim team made up of several Catholic school girls were interviewed on FOX this morning.

Brenna Wojtysiak and Victoria Marwig, both Christ the King students, and Erin Schmisseur from St. John Bosco School competed in a regional championship last month after placing first in state.

They’re heading to Florida this month for the national championships. Sydney Schmisseur, also placed first in state on an older team.

Note: The video was rather shaky for me, so be patient.
