Catholic teenagers will join fellow parishioners in a farewell reception for Eric Porteous, outgoing coordinator of LifeTeen at St. Patrick Parish in Scottsdale tonight.

Porteous accepted a position at LifeTeen headquarters in Mesa earlier this year and has been pulling double duty for several months. Check out his latest article. Porteous will essentially do nationally what he once did locally.

While serving Scottsdale youth, Porteous also served as an area contact for parish youth leaders interested in implementing LifeTeen materials and as a local source of support for youth ministers already familiar with LifeTeen.

He’ll spend most of his time helping youth ministers and diocesan directors of youth ministry better understand and use LifeTeen’s vast resources. He’ll also offer training including during the LifeTeen Convention June 14-19 in Carefree.

“He’s a very authentic, a very humble, a very prayerful man,” said Mark Hart, LifeTeen’s vice president who lives in the Valley.

Hart said Porteous took relational ministry seriously as St. Patrick’s youth minister and knows he’ll do the same for LifefTeen. When I ran into Porteous a good month or two ago, he had already been traveling across the country like crazy in support of the nation’s LifeTeen youth ministers.
