Matt Maher experience
“Arguably the best Catholic singer/songwriter out there today,” started a recent e-mail from the World Youth Day 2008 people. The description referred to local Catholic artist Matt Maher and his band.
The e-mail promoted Maher’s return to the land down under this weekend for a follow-up worship experience.
Nearly one year ago, Maher showed young Catholics from all over the world, including more than 100 from Phoenix, what it means to be empty and beautiful — the title of his fourth album — during his worship and Mass performances at Youth Arise ’08 in Brisbane, Australia and during “Receive the Power. Live!” in Sydney, Australia.
“God takes what’s empty and fills it with His very self,” Maher was quoted in a 2008 article about the album. And that is, indeed, beautiful.
Maher and his band will present “Empty and Beautiful: The Matt Maher Experience” today and tomorrow in Sydney, Australia. The event, put on by the youth office in the Archdiocese of Sydney, will draw on Maher’s strong faith and sense of mission for a night of brilliant music, ministry and prayer, according to the e-mail.
It looks as though the Catholic Schools Performing Arts in Sydney is somehow involved too.
