Reflections on Free Spirit
I blogged about Bourgade’s journalism students earlier this year. The post highlighted individual and group awards.

Steven Torres, design and photography editor, won the “Free Spirit” award from the Freedom Forum. That meant $1,000 to further his education and a weeklong journalism conference with other top high school journalists around the country.
A reflection on the award came out in today’s Eagle Eyrie, the school’s newspaper. Here is an excerpt:
I was asked what my most important moment in journalism is, and I said, “Being given my own column, “Religious Write,” is an honor because this experience has enabled me to become an effective and true reporter while evangelizing and inspiring others.”
Torres also wrote that “the world of journalism looks very bright, whether it is print, media or blogging.”
Students from two other Catholic schools and two Jesuit schools were among the 102 recipients (one from each state plus D.C.).
