Catholic media
It’s been an unusual week or so around here when it comes to Catholic media and social networking. Here are some highlights:
- On the same day (April 17) that CatholicTV sent me a press release about how the 50-year-old full-time television station — the first in the world to air 24/7 — uses Twitter and other modern social media to spread the faith, the Catholic Sun joined a Twibe. You can also follow us directly. More on twibes.
- Two days later, our diocesan Catholic TV, known better as “the TV Mass,” changed channels: from channel 45, cable 9 to KAZT-TV channel 7, Cable 13. Skyline Productions broadcasts — via television and Internet — the 9 a.m. Sunday liturgy at Ss. Simon and Jude Cathedral.
- The Skyline Productions crew will carry live the ordination and installation of Bishop-elect Jim Wall on KAZT-TV channel 7 tomorrow at 1 p.m. Arizona time. The Diocese of Gallup will stream it live. Five public viewing sites — including a café and pub and grill — were also established for the occasion.
-
I noticed that CatholicTV is hoping voters will help the Web site win a “Webby” Award for Best Religion and Spirituality Web site. Vote here. Deadline is April 30, according to CatholicTV’s twitter. CatholicTV, out of the Diocese of Boston, was the first diocese in the world to broadcast online during its 1999 debut.
- Earlier this week, we discussed how to approach coverage of an upcoming workshop for youth leaders. It will address how to effectively use social networking sites and blogs to further evangelization. Leaders will also outline the new diocesan policy on social networking. We expect video coverage of this event.
