Mercy Gilbert honored for compassionate service

I picked up a copy of The Gilbert Republic while waiting for the last of my free smoothies — courtesy of a gift card — to be blended on Saturday and found a noteworthy story on the front page: Mercy Gilbert rated tops in nation for healing.

Ranked top healing hospital

In just three years of existence, the 182-bed hospital — a member of Catholic Healthcare West and a frequent Catholic Sun advertiser — went from being the second best healing hospital in the nation according to the Baptist Healing Trust, to number one. It noted the hospital’s compassionate service and relaxing environment.

The Baptist Healing Trust also named chief executive officer Laurie Eberst top CEO.

Late last year, the Phoenix Business Journal ranked the hospital as the ninth best place to work in large Valley workplaces. The magazine cited Mercy Gilbert’s unique corporate culture and promotion of personal and professional growth amongst staff.

The hospital completed its first expansion in early 2008, adding another tower and 94 beds. Early this year, we ran a brief about a healing garden project underway at Mercy Gilbert. The hospital plans to open 24 more beds on April 23.
