April 16, 2009 issue of The Catholic Sun

This next issue of The Catholic Sun should find its way into your mailboxes a couple of days after Easter Sunday. So you should be sure to read J.D.’s feature on the Easter season and how Catholics can celebrate it.

I wrote a story on Holy Week’s Chrism Mass at the cathedral and a story about Bishop-elect Wall’s upcoming ordination to the episcopacy and installation as Gallup’s fourth bishop. I also wrote another installment of the Marriage Matters series and a book review on a picture book that instills Marian devotion.

Ambria wrote about struggling Catholics turning to the CDA and their parish communities for help. She also reported from a Xavier initiative to get young girls interested in the maths and sciences.

Joyce wrote about the Korean community’s new quasi-parish, a protest at a local Planned Parenthood, and her Your Catholic Neighbor features a man who helps families plan for end-of-life issues.

Becca reviews the new Hannah Montana movie and a new CD by local Catholic musician Doug Slater. We also continue with our coverage of the Notre Dame/Obama situation with a round-up wire story and a letter signed by 10 members of the Congregation of the Holy Cross — including Fr. John Herman from St. John Vianney in Goodyear — expressing their disagreement with Fr. Jenkins, the university president. Holy Cross runs Notre Dame.

To round it all off, Bishop Olmsted writes this week about the Blessed Mother’s role in the Second Vatican Council and the ongoing ecumenical dialog.

Have a Happy Easter from all of us here.
