‘Slumdog’ wins three Golden Globes
You probably already heard, but “Slumdog Millionaire” (Fox Searchlight) took home three Golden Globe, winning for best director, screenplay and musical score.
It wasn’t a suprise to Catholic Sun media critic Rebecca Bostic. In her review of “Slumdog” she concludes that the film “will make a believer our of even the harshest skeptic.” She wrote that the Golden Globe winner “successfully merges a moving story with excitement and entertainment in a way that is unparalleled in recent memory.”
“The life of Jamal, Salim and Latika borders on surreal in some flashbacks, where the camera shots are so beautiful the story enters further into the fairy tale genre, where it truly belongs,” she writes in her regular review, “A Catholic Lens.” “The modern fairy tale of Jamal and Latika is full of evil, laughter, danger, beauty and ultimately destiny.”
The film also received high ranks from Bostic in the Catholic Sun rating, earning a “strong” for message and a “very strong” for artistic merit.
The USCCB classification is A-III — adults. The Motion Picture Association of America rating is R — restricted. Under 17 requires accompanying parent or adult guardian.
