The St. Peregreine Chapel groundbreaking at Christ the King Parish in Mesa will happen tonight at 6:30 p.m.

Prior to the ceremony, Chuck Lenhart, store manager of an ACE Hardware store in Mesa, will walk from the downtown Diocesan Pastoral Center to the site of the groundbreaking to honor all of those who have died of cancer as well as those who are still fighting the disease.  He will begin his walk at noon and is expected to travel down Van Buren Street in Phoenix until it curves into Mill Avenue in Tempe and take that eventually to Apache Boulevard in Tempe, and finally Main Street in Mesa.

Lenhart is scheduled to arrive at the Parish just before a candlelight groundbreaking program that will include luminarias in the outline of the chapel.  The chapel will be named the St. Peregrine Chapel in honor of the patron saint of cancer patients.  A shrine to St. Peregrine will also be a part of the chapel.  Construction is expected to be completed in the spring of 2009.

Ambria should be there taking photos for another blog post next week. If you take any photos, send them our way: letters@catholicsun.org.
