Perpetual adoration – 7 days straight

Some of you may be in the midst of an election novena that won’t wrap up until Tuesday. I just got a reminder call and e-mail from Fr. Carlos Gomez, pastor of St. Augustine Parish, that his parish’s prayer effort leading up to Tuesday’s election ends tomorrow with a solemn outdoor Mass at 7 p.m.
It sounds to me like it was a fruitful endeavor. The idea was to have perpetual adoration for seven days beginning Oct. 25. Each parish ministry took turns filling the adoration chapel, some as long as three-hour blocks.
They prayed for the Church, for immigrants and for amnesty with the intent of centering themselves in prayer for the upcoming elections. The inaugural effort was dubbed “Jericho’s Site” and is based on the Book of Joshua when the soldiers broke down the walls of Jericho after seven days of circling the city.
Even if you haven’t been spiritually with Catholics at St. Augustine in prayer these last few days, Fr. Gomez would love to have you with him at Mass tomorrow evening as he closes out the effort.
