About marriage
About.com:Phoenix posted an interesting blog on Proposition 102, which would amend the Arizona state constitution to strictly define a valid marriage as “only a union of one man and one woman.” Voters will decide on the proposition during the upcoming Nov. 4 elections.
The author of the post, Judy Hedding, asked readers whether they’d support or oppose the proposition. As of today, 991 people have voted — 632 for, 359 against. But, of course, this isn’t a scientific poll, so it can’t be used to predict results in November.
While Hedding posted the survey Aug. 26, it has sparked a heated back-and-forth between readers that’s still going on today.
The Arizona bishops issued a statement in support of the proposition Sept. 4 and parishes in the Phoenix Diocese showed a video of Bishop Thomas J. Olmsted calling Catholics to back the amendment Sept. 13-14.
